WHAT PEOPLE SAY TO PHOTOGRAPHERS AND
WHAT PHOTOGRAPHERS SAY TO THEMSELVES…

I believe there are times in most artists’ lives when they see the art work of a kindred spirit and stop frozen in their tracks. Times when seeing someone’s work strikes a chord in your heart and helps you be a better artist….helps you realize why you are an artist. Let’s face it, the world doesn’t need another photographer. What the world does need, however, is an artist with a noble purpose.

Well, one day, I have no idea how, I stumbled upon the blog of a woman named Sue Bryce. She lives in Australia (and I have a certain fondness for Australians, but I digress…). Sue was once a glamour photographer. You remember the type….Big pouffy over-sprayed hair, thick makeup and lots of feather boas and…well..you get the picture… over the top. I even had one made (and am still looking for it to post).

Yeah, I know. What was I thinking? And then, something horrific happened in my life that caused my body to be extremely disfigured. I ended up, after 12 surgeries, with scars…lots and lots of scars. And it sucked to be me.

Well, I knew, internally, that I was not my body. I was my spirit … I knew that my femininity was more than physical, it was a mental state of mind and it could be conveyed in a myriad of ways.

Well Sue knows this, as well. Sue transforms women. She takes the ordinary and makes them extra-ordinary. She sees beauty where we might not see it ourselves. And she makes you (and her subject) see it as well.

Well, Sue is giving a three day seminar on CreativeLive.com this March 3-5th. It’s free if you watch it live or during the replay at night. And she wants 6 people – 4 women and 2 men to join her in Seattle for the event. The amazing bonus is that we get to be photographed by Sue (my dream).

Well, you can imagine my desire. So, at her request, I have created this video to enter for a spot in her seminar. It starts off with a few riffs on what people always say to me about my photography and ends with me being…. well, me.

I hope you like it. But even more so, I hope the folks at Creative Live and Sue Bryce like it enough to allow me to spend 3-4 wonderful days learning how to make ordinary-feeling women feel and look beautiful and allow them to be transformed into extra-ordinary, powerful women!
And, I promise, when I get back….. I’d be honored to do the same for YOU!

Wish me luck!

October May Be Breast Cancer Awareness Month, But I Say…

Don’t wait for October! Check yourself daily!
And that means men, too. If anything appears out of the ordinary, in your breasts OR your prostate….see a doctor immediately! You can’t afford to wait….
